 "Editor-in-Chief of The Story Publishing House, Kenneth Orusi, Receives Prestigious Media Merit Excellence Awards from Nigeria Radar Magazine"



The Editor-in-Chief of The Story Publishing House,And Chief Press Secretary to the Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the March 18th 2023 election, Kenneth Orusi, 

recently received the prestigious Media Merit Excellence Awards from Nigeria Radar Magazine. The event, which took place on March 21st, 2024, at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Asaba, honored journalists in Delta State who have been overlooked by successive governments despite their efforts in promoting government programs and policies.


Orusi was awarded the "Best Constructive Journalist" and "Special Leadership Recognition" Awards for his 14 years of experience as a media practitioner and unionist. The awards were presented by the Chairman of the occasion and the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp. This recognition is a testament to Orusi's dedication and commitment to the field of journalism.


The awards ceremony was organized by Comrade Tony C. Okwunebe, the Publisher/CEO of Nigeria Radar Magazine. The theme of the event was "Politics, Politicians and the challenges of the Journalists in sensational journalism towards nation building," which aimed to highlight the impact of sensational journalism on the masses and the role journalists play in politics.


In his speech, Okwunebe emphasized the importance of the media as the fourth estate of the realm and the watchdog of the government. He lamented the neglect and lack of recognition journalists often face despite their crucial role in informing the public about government policies and representing the interests of the people. Okwunebe expressed his gratitude to the journalists present for their professionalism and dedication.


The awards were selected by a 5-man committee who monitored journalists in Delta State, especially in Asaba, the state capital. The award categories included Print Media Individual Awards, Print Media Awards, Electronic Media Awards, Online Media Awards, Special Leadership Recognition, Special Friends/Mentors Awards, and Most Inspiring Personalities Award. The recipients were chosen based on their contributions and achievements in journalism.


The event served as a platform to encourage journalists to continue their work with dedication and professionalism. Okwunebe acknowledged that the recipients may not necessarily be the best, but they were recognized for their efforts and contributions. He also introduced the Veteran Journalists Award, which honored the veterans who played a significant role in the peace and unity of Delta NUJ, as well as the Special Friends/Mentors Awards, which recognized individuals who guided him in his early days in the media world.


Overall, the Media Merit Excellence Awards celebrated the achievements and contributions of journalists in Delta State. It shed light on the important role they play in society, and called for their recognition and support from the government. This event served as a reminder of the power of the media and its impact on nation building.
